Daily Recipe for The Master Cleanse

In preparation for the Group Opt-In Master Cleanse beginning this Tuesday, September 3rd make sure to read all of the posts  to familiarize yourself with the program and to get an idea of what you will need to buy beforehand.  You are welcome to post any questions or comments either here on the blog or on our Facebook page where we will be checking in daily with motivation, inspiration and cheer-leading.

The basic Master Cleanse is over a 10-day period, with a couple of days at the end to ease back into solid foods.  There are individuals who have continued the fast for as long as forty days.  Although it is thought that the 10 days is an ideal period to facilitate a proper detoxification, should you decide to fast for a day or two or three, that’s perfectly fine.  Any time you can give your body a rest from solid foods and the very taxing digestive process, it’s bound to be good for you!  Make sure to check with your physician if you have any concerns.

NOTE:  If you are taking a prescribed daily medication, do not stop taking it unless your medical doctor advises as such!

Here is what you will be consuming on a daily basis during The Master Cleanse:

STARTING WITH THE NIGHT BEFORE – MONDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND:

Drink one cup of “Smooth Move” (senna-based tea) about an hour or two before bedtime.  If you find it too bitter you can sweeten with a bit of stevia or even some of the Grade B Maple Syrup reserves*

IN THE MORNING OF TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD:

First of all, allow yourself some extra “bathroom” time.  Prepare a solution of 1 quart (32 oz) warm or room temperature water with 2 level teaspoons of non-iodized high quality salt, preferably sea salt.  Let the salt dissolve and do your best to drink this down withing 10-20 minutes.  Admittedly, this is the least pleasant aspect of the MC.  People do admit to forgoing the salt flush, but it is considered an important step in cleansing old, impacted material from the colon.

AFTER THE SALT FLUSH:

Prepare your “lemonade” either by the glass (8 oz) or by the quart (32 oz), using the following formula:

FOR 8 OZ OF FILTERED OR BOTTLED WATER ADD:

2 TB lemon or lime juice – fresh squeezed  (I particularly find a combination of both to be very satisfying)

2 TB maple syrup (must be Grade B – see former post)

1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Stir or shake and drink.  Within another hour and a half (or sooner, if you prefer) prepare another glass.

YOU SHOULD DRINK BETWEEN 60-64 OZ. OF THE LEMONADE PER DAY

YOU CAN DRINK AS MUCH WATER AS YOU WANT THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

FOR 1 QUART (32 OZ.) CONTAINER:

8 TB lemon or lime juice – fresh squeezed

8 TB Grade B Maple Syrup*

1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper – start slowly with this and you will build up a tolerance (and even an appreciation) for the cayenne.  Some people really dislike it and prefer to take cayenne tablets.  If you would like to increase the amount of cayenne, that’s encouraged.  It is excellent for dilating your blood vessels, allowing for more detoxification, and for accelerating the metabolism.

ON THE NIGHT OF September 3rd:

*Maple Syrup Reserves – if one of your goals for the MC is weight loss, you may want to reserve 1-2 tablespoons from each 32 oz. serving (i.e. instead of 8 tablespoons, you would have 6-7.    However, do not attempt to deprive yourself of any more than that as the Grade B maple syrup will provide you with much-need nutrition for the fast.  You can use some of those reserves in your senna or mint tea at night as a treat.

THAT’S ALL, FOLKS!

However, in Peter Glickman’s book,  Lose Weight, Have more Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days,  having a cup of herbal-based mint tea (peppermint, mint medley, spearmint) at night is permissible. ( THIS IS NOT IN PLACE OF THE SENNA TEA, BUT IN ADDITION TO)  I had one every other night the first time I did the cleanse.  He has an excellent website and forum on The Master Cleanse that you may want to check out here.

ON A POSITIVE NOTE:  It’s okay to include a small amount of the pulp from your fresh-squeezed lemons/limes.  You will appreciate having that small amount of texture, especially by the third or fourth day.
